New World Q&A 3/25/24

Despite the insistence of PvP players in New World, they are not the focus of New World any longer. While PvP is one of the few things to do at end game in the sandbox MMO, in today's Q&A video the devs confirm that the majority of players in the game are PvE-focused. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone except the PvP players, who in most mainstream MMOs are indeed in the minority. What makes New World different, however, is that aside from running the same weekly expeditions over and over, PvP is about the only other thing there is to do. So while it may look like PvP is half of the content in the game, the fact is that the player base in PvP does not equal half of the players.

That being said, the devs do state that they want to further invest in PvP with new modes and maps. What they don't say out loud is that PvE takes priority because the majority of the player base is playing it. They are working on "something big" for PvP which will be part of the June announcement, which they're not talking about until then.

So we continue to wait until June to hear all of the big plans. Until then, Season 5 is now set to launch on April 2nd. There isn't really much content in the update other than the new Season Pass to complete, but there has been a lot of work on the backend of animations which is most likely geared toward an upcoming console release. Speaking of which, that June update REALLY needs to be more than just a console announcement. We already know that's coming, whether they say it out loud or not.

You can watch the latest New World Dev Q&A where they (vaguely) discuss all of this below.
