New Overwatch Director's Take Says The Team Is Happy With Juno, But Clash Mode Is Too Stompy
There's changes coming as the midseason patch approaches, including changes to tank survivability.
As the midseason patch approaches, it's time for Overwatch 2's Lead Gameplay Designer Alec Dawson to take over the hero shooter's "Director's Take" column and spill the beans on what the team is thinking. First up, new hero Juno is being well received. While Activision Blizzard was a little concerned with her having a "lock on" ability, apparently most players have been able to adapt to it. Alec says she's at the "safe side of strong," but some other small changes could be added still. They won't come until the team lets Juno sit "as-is" for a while longer, though.
Flip side, the new "Clash" mode needs some help. The mode is just flat out too"stompy." As Alec notes, "No one likes it when queue times exceed your match time, and some Clash matches end very quickly. While Overwatch can be a swingy game, often we find that matches stabilize after a certain number of teamfights. Giving teams an additional chance or two to not get blown out will be quite healthy for Clash overall."
The final capture areas still aren't really worth going after, even after they were split into three ticks. Expect more work on this front. Things also tend to get a bit TOO chaotic in Clash, but the big tweaks won't come until Season 13.
Finally, tanks have too high a survivability. Armor power and some defensive passives will be adjusted next week.
How are you feeling about these changes?
