New Events System Introduced In DC Universe Online While The MMO Turns 14
Time for some new anniversary emotes, too.
I'm such a sucker for MMORPG anniversaries. I don't know, there's just something about looking back at a game I play (or played) and seeing how far it's come, how old we both got together, and sometimes laughing at what the game may have become in that time.
Hey, you take the good with the bad, right?
In the case of Daybreak and Dimensional Ink's DC Universe Online, it's time to turn 14! Honestly, this was one of those rarer cases for me when I immediately thought, "wait, isn't DCUO older than that?" I didn't feel like it was MUCH older and wasn't calling it "old" at all, but I certainly thought I have been aware of or talking about the game for longer. Nope! January 11th 2011 was the magic date, so here we are.
As for what's happening, first there's a reward of a CR 420 loot box just for logging in sometime between today and February 3rd. You can only get this once per account and you must be level 30 to use it. Today also sees the return of the Annual Attack of Anti-Monitor, including new rewards such as the Outrage emote.
DCUO is also introducing a new "Events System," but this one kind of left me feeling a tad let down. While the team does mention they have additional plans for this feature that will be revealed later, it's really just a progression bar that fills based on completing a daily mission. Sure, there's rewards to be had, but at the moment is seems like nothing more than a system attempting to entice more engagement through habit than through interesting game additions. We'll see where the team takes things in the future, I guess. It all "leads" to Patrols being part of a larger year-end event objective apparently.
