Neverwinter gets Open Beta "Launch" Date
Neverwinter has gotten one of those newfangled open beta launch dates. The kind where it's officially out, but not really. I always chuckle when a game goes into open beta release and a major issue (or lack of feature) crops up and people say "but its still in beta!" Meanwhile the developers are busy collecting that sweet sweet cash shop money.
In any case the launch date is set for April 30th and players can expect to progress through the world of Neverwinter with nary a character wipe in sight. Those who purchased a Founders pack will be granted access to an additional beta weekend starting on Friday, April 12th. The beta weekend will be focused on allowing players to try out the game's four different professions: Leadership, Mailsmithing, Platesmithing and Leatherworking. Keep in mind this will not be a part of the open beta and characters made during this beta weekend will be wiped.

Again, if you expect a pen&paper or even DDO-like experience DO. NOT. DOWNLOAD. THIS. You are only setting yourself up for disappointment.
If you however don't mind and in fact enjoyed Balder's Gate : Dark Alliance or even Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, then you'll likely enjoy Neverwinter.
As for the game. I liked it. I liked all of Cryptic games. None of them forced microtranscations on me and none of them where like anything other on the market at the time. Well, at least they didn't try to be and all of them offered user created content of which I am terribly fond of. They do not bring anything ground-breaking but that can hardly be held against them. In terms of Neverwinter it is best to not expect a strict follow up of DnD rules. I did not play it for it's universe so it didn't bother me. It is simply all through and through a very well done classic mmo with a few fresh twists to the mix.
I understand people that say that they do not care for the game and that it doesn't rock their boat. But anybody that tells you that it's a bad game and would even call it pathetic, is simply a child.
