NetEase Swoops In And Buys Up SkyBox, Don't Know Who They Are? They Work On Halo Infinite, Fallout 76, And Minecraft
The purchase of gaming companies by Chinese companies continues into the new year.
You may not be aware of SkyBox Labs. It's a game development company based in Canada that doesn't have many independently created video games on the market. What they do have, however, is quite the list of games that they co-develop with other studios. You've probably played at least one of their co-developed games before at some point as the list includes some high profile titles.
Fallout 76, Halo Infinite, and Minecraft are some of the titles they still work on to this day, but they've also helped out on previous Halo titles and Age of Empires games.
Today, NetEase Games has purchased the company and plans to let it continue operating independently with its co-development work and to add new titles to the slate in the future.
SkyBox is the most recent grab for NetEase, who has been on a bit of a buying spree of its own against fellow Chinese rival Tencent.
“We have built a team of talented individuals who are passionate and creative, and by joining NetEase Games, we will also be able to accelerate our plans to pursue new creative opportunities, and enjoy access to world-class operational resources and the full breadth and depth of NetEase’s services so we can scale faster in Canada,” said one of SkyBox's three founders, Shyang Kong.
