Moonshot Games Reveals Their New Crew-Based Tactical Space Combat Game Wildgate
The game's art style, tongue-in-cheek humor, and even its damn logo give off Wildstar vibes.
First off, let me get just a few things out of the way. One, we don't yet know if this title's going to be F2P or not. Given that we only cover F2P here these days, we'll see if Wildgate stays as part of our coverage scope once we learn more. Two, while yes, I did mention in the secondary headline the massive amounts of Wildstar vibes I get from Wildgate's logo, overwhelming use of the color purple, and art style, no, this isn't an MMORPG. Wildgate is a tactical space combat title where ship-to-ship combat and some first-person shooting will win the day.
The newly revealed game from Moonshot Games (a studio that includes former Hearthstone and StarCraft 2 devs) is a PvEvP affair where gangs of prospectors are out to loot the secrets of space and find the all-powerful artifact. Of course, they won't be alone in this quest. That's where a good crew comes in handy. Prospectors themselves are unique heroes sporting their own abilities and talents while your ship is your life. Pick the right type of ship and crew and ensure you stay stocked up on fuel and ice to keep your plan in motion. That last thing you want in a match is to find yourself gliding on fumes.
Get to the artifact and then make it through the Wildgate to win your match. Along the way, chart out the storms of space and loot a few hidden caverns if you have the time. Just know that 4 teams of 5 will be in a match together, so work quickly.
Honestly, it looks kind of fun. The humor in the trailer and deep dive video below helps give it a certain charm. Wildgate will release sometime this year on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. You can wishlist it now. From the FAQ, we do know that both cross play and cross progression will be supported and you can play on PC with a controller if you like. Get more information about the upcoming playtest and sign up on the official site.
P.S. If that last little "betrayal" shown in the deep dive is something that's actually possible in game, I'll be even more interested.
