Microsoft Is "Likely" To Receive An EU Antitrust Warning Over Proposed Activision-Blizzard Deal "In The Coming Weeks"
Sources say the European Commission will send "a statement of objections" revealing concerns about the deal.
The European Commission reportedly will send Microsoft an EU antitrust warning about its proposed Activision-Blizzard deal very soon.
That warning will come in the form of a charge sheet called "a statement of objections," listing all of the European Commission's concerns over the massive pending deal. According to Reuters's sources, Microsoft could see it "in the coming weeks."
The EU antitrust watchdog previously announced an April 11 deadline for its decision on the acquisition.
In a statement to the publication, Microsoft said, "We're continuing to work with the European Commission to address any marketplace concerns. Our goal is to bring more games to more people, and this deal will further that goal."
The report claims Microsoft "was expected" to offer remedies to EU regulators to "avert a statement of charge and shorten the regulatory process," which sources told Reuters in November. Although, sources also claimed the European Commission "is not expected to be open to remedies without first sending out its charge sheet."
Adding onto the pile, Microsoft has been catching heat from opposing voices rising around the US Federal Trade Commission's lawsuit. The suit's argument focuses on whether Microsoft could "suppress competitors" to its Xbox consoles, subscription services, and cloud gaming business if the deal happens.
