Microsoft Becomes More Valuable Than Apple And Tim Sweeney Throws Shade Over It
It may not last long, but investors are more optimistic about Microsoft for now.
While there's been a few times in the last 5 years that Microsoft has had a higher market cap than Apple, for the most part Apple has been the big dog on the block for quite some time. The past few years have been pretty big for Microsoft, though, and now Microsoft finds itself on top of the business world once again.
With the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and a huge surge in AI (specifically Microsoft's backing of OpenAI), Microsoft finds its market cap closing in on $3 trillion. On the flip side, Apple is seeing less product demand and has had stumbles here in the US with products being pulled from shelves over litigation.
On the heels of the shift, CEO of Epic Games Tim Sweeney took to X (formerly Twitter) to "congratulate" Microsoft...but really he was throwing shade at Apple (and Google), two companies Epic Games has a long history of seeing in court over their market practices.
Congratulations to Microsoft on a well-deserved honor. From Bill Gates to Steve Ballmer to Satya Nadella, they have a 50-year track record of supporting and empowering developers to do great work, while respecting developer and user freedom. A sharp contrast to Apple and Google. https://t.co/myimDquZnN

Markets are a bit more optimistic on Microsoft, but it'll be interesting to see how long this lasts as previous surges in Microsoft were short-lived and Apple quickly took their number one position back.
