Meet The Four Patrons In ESO’s Fierce Card Game, Tales Of Tribute
Players will be ready to take charge of the tabletop after this informative introduction.
Arriving with ESO’s High Isle Chapter will be the introduction to the Tales of Tribute competitive card game. In this strategic card game, players will need to master the four starting patrons: The Duke of Crows, Grandmaster Delmene Hlaalu, Saint Pelin, and Psijic Loremaster Celarus. All of which have unique abilities that players can use to their advantage.
Starting with “The smartest and biggest and loudest” crow in the murder is The Duke of Crows. These cards focus on creating combos that allow players to draw more cards. Like many crows, The Duke favors shiny items like the player's Coin. When activating the Duke of Crows’ Patron ability, players will gain a large amount of power quickly, but at a cost. It is suggested to use the Duke when players have the Coin to exchange for power.
Speaking about Coins, the Hlaalu cards help players gain Coins and cards. The strength of these cards are “Generating lots of Coins or directly laying claim to cards from the Tavern,” says Irenio Calmon-Huang, one of the senior system designers behind Tales of Tribute. Similar to the Duke, if players wish to activate the Grandmaster’s Patron ability, the bigger the player's sacrifice, the bigger the reward.
The third patron is Saint Pelin. Players will have nothing to fear with faith, sword, and a shield as Saint Pelin specializes in powerful agents. Irenio explains that “Saint Pelin’s cards excel at two things: generating Power and getting agents with taunt onto the field.” If a player needs bodies to protect them from their opponent, then Saint Pelin is perfect. The best time to use this patron's power, according to Irenio, is when a player first lays claim to an agent from the Tavern, after the card will be sent to the top of the player's deck so they can again draw them immediately.
The last patron is Psijic Loremaster Celarus, a wise scholar who seeks balance, which is perfect considering that Celarus helps players master the board and the deck. Using Celarus can speed up a player's deck as they are allowed to sift through the top of their draw pile and pick what is available from the Tavern while denying the opponent the cards they wanted. Through balance, players can control not only their own side, but their opponents as well. While mainly defensive, the Psijic Order does have the ability to knock an enemy unconscious. Also, when Celarus is available, he can help eliminate agents no matter their power.
Also, players can unlock four additional patrons in the High Isle Chapter simply by playing through the zone’s content and unlocking Achievements. If players would like to read more about Tales of Tribute and the four starting patrons, please feel free to check out the post by Elder Scrolls Online.
