MechWarrior Online Gets Another Five Years, Asks Fans For Input
MechWarrior Online developer Piranha Games is enlisting the help of fans to decide the direction of future development of the game. Last week, new Senior Marketing and Community Manager Daeron Katz announced that Piranha had secured a five-year extension on its license with Microsoft to continue producing the game and that he'd be meeting with upper management "to go over a rough outline of a plan" for that future development.
Late last night, he made that plan public, in his second weekly update post. Right now, it's just a list of bullet points, but he encouraged players to make suggestions for new topics or against listed ones. Katz estimated that it would take "the majority of the remaining six weeks prior to the holiday break to really hash everything out into a solid plan for MWO in the new year" and would keep fans updated with his regular posts.
The topics fall under eight primary categories: new player experience, features, maps, 'mechs, modes, social, new features, and monetization. If you've got takes on how those topics should be tackled, you can make your voice known on the forums. But even if you're like me, and you've never played MWO, it's nice to see an older game getting an extension on its life and still soliciting the help of its players to try and make the game better.
