LOTRO Is "Not Going Away" According To Devs Responding To Players' Concerns Over Amazon's MMO Announcement
"LOTRO is like the long-lived Ents, Elves and Dwarves; and we mere mortals, are the stewards of LOTRO and its community."
Remember when Star Wars Galaxies was just "going away" as BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic was coming soon?
It appears that Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) fans are worried the same thing could happen to their MMORPG given the recent announcement from Amazon Games. It's easy to see the concern. Is there enough room for multiple MMOs based on the same IP?
According to Standing Stone Games, yes, of course there's room.
In a post on the game's forums, Community Manager Cordovan stated that LOTRO "is not going away" and that they have "every intention of growing and supporting this community." They even called the game "evergreen".
For its part, Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann said LOTRO "is not a bad game," but he says the comparison between the games would be like comparing black and white movies to color movies. Hartmann did agree that the games "of course can co-exist," but also says the "industry moves on."
