Lost Ark Intro Video

Lost Ark's launch is just over a month away, and in case you needed a refresher on what you can expect on February 11 -- or just didn't know all the details yet -- Smilegate and Amazon Games have produced a five-minute video to get you up to speed.

Lost Ark takes place in the obviously named Arkesia, and you'll have five classes to choose from: Mage, Martial Artist, Warrior, Gunner, and Assassin. I knew each class had different advanced classes, but I'll be honest when I'll say I haven't followed the game much beyond that. So this was the first time I learned about the game's skill system, which looks surprisingly flexible and should go a long way toward allowing you to differentiate one class from another.

(I say "should" because, as if often the case in games that give you tons of options, only a few of them are actually effective.)

Beyond that, there's a good bit of info about the lore of the world, which is often a side thought in MMORPGs and even more in the loot-fests that are ARPGs. Then the video talks about ships, which I again part of the game, but didn't know much about beyond their existing; it sounds like they'll add interesting exploration options. Finally, there's talk about your home base, crafting, dungeons, and PvP, all of which sound fairly standard for the genre.

It all looks like it's coming together nicely, and even if (like me) you're not looking forward to the Lost Ark launch as rabidly as some folks, this video should entice you to give the game a shot when it becomes available.
