Leveling In The War Within Is Too Easy So World Of Warcraft Will Be Fixing That Tomorrow
If you'd rather burn those levels quickly, you need to do it today.
If you've loved burning through the leveling grind in World of Warcraft's latest The War Within expansion, get ready for that to slow down a bit. According to a post on the MMORPG's forums, the internal data revealed to the team that things were dying quickly...too quickly.
Sure, those that spent the time in the last expansion gearing WAY up always come into a new expansion overpowered to a certain degree. This is inevitable as the team initially balances towards the vast majority of their player base that didn't "over level" their gear through high-end difficulty encounters in the previous expansion. Usually it all evens out in the end anyway, so it isn't a big deal.
This time around, it apparently WAS a big deal. Blizzard says their internal data is showing them that things are dying way too fast, with players not making it through a normal combat rotation before they're off to their next target. It mitigate this and make combat take a bit longer, the team will be scaling the power of enemies up a bit tomorrow, August 28th. While you will really notice this at level 70, the start of the expansion, it will become less noticeable as you near the 80 cap and you've geared up through quests and dungeons along the way.
This is certainly an interesting choice. Honestly, this only impacts the initial leveling and maybe the regular versions of dungeons, which are usually abandoned pretty quickly in favor of Heroic and Mythic dungeons. This also makes the path a bit harder initially for your alts. You know, those other characters you maybe didn't gear up as high as you did your main? Yeah, tough, they'll still have to go against these scaled up enemies.
I'm not exactly sure I would have gone in this direction. Not only is this update harsh to alts, something The War Within has tried to be more kind to with new features, but we had about a week of early access at these levels, then a day after official launch you roll it back? Just weird. I actually didn't notice a super fast time to kill when leveling in early access, but I also wasn't geared to the gills by the previous expansion. However, I will say that because I opted to do all side quests as I came to them, I was level capped about 50% of the way through The War Within's new zones, which felt weird.
Anyway, if you want that "speed" leveling, get in the game today.
Are you ok with this change? How was your leveling?
