Legends of Runterra's next update, Patch 1.4 arrives this week and is the start of several changes coming to the game over time. The patch, which also kicks off the Season of Fortune ranked season is the first step in changing how Riot rolls out seasonal content, with the intention of releasing new cards every two weeks instead of dropping expansions every four months. That won't be completely implemented until August, but they're laying the groundwork now.

As for the 1.4 patch, the big addition is a new game mode titled "Gauntlets". This is a limited-time competitive mode that goes live every weekend and lasts for about four days. Every week the mode changes formats. The first round of Gauntlets will kick off on June 25 and use standard deckbuilding rules. This will be followed by a new rotation on July 3 that requires players to build a deck with a single copy of each card.

Of course there are rewards for participating in the new mode and those who do so and earn seven wins will recieve an exclusive icon. More rewards will be added at a later time.

As for the rest of the update, changes have been made to Masters-tier LP, new personalization items have been added to the store, and more than 20 cards have been reworked. A rundown of all these changes can be found on the Legends of Runeterra site, along with more information on what players can expect in the near future.
