League Of Legends Preseason 2023 Is Bringing Jungle Role Changes, Will Make It Easier For Newcomers
Riot doesn't want to "'dumb down' the jungle," instead they'll try to make it complex in the right places.
Riot Games posted their latest LoL Pls blog post that focuses on Preseason 2023 and the jungle role changes coming to League of Legends. Jungle has proved to be arguably the hardest role to master due to its level of nuance and varied potential, leading newcomers to stay far away from the role. Riot wants to change that by "easing players" into the role and injecting complexity in all the right places.
One of the key changes to make junglers more accessible to new players is Riot doing a better job of showing how it's played. The company didn't state in what way they'll accomplish this, but we can assume in-game tutorials will be part of the mix. Also, jungling mechanics will be adjusted to make them "less punishing and more intuitive," but that doesn't mean they're going to "'dumb down' the jungle or remove the ability to show off your jungle knowledge." Instead, the jungle will be "complex in the right places."
Riot is also considering adjusting the way camps leash, such as "their ranges and reset rules." And for future updates, they will address jungle clear optimization and make more champions viable junglers. "Right now in League, it’s not realistic to expect a ton of different characters to be viable at the highest levels of play because a lot of them simply can’t optimize their clears enough to stand up with the rest," said Riot. There are even additional tools in the works for junglers to proactively communicate with their teams while deep in the jungle to coordinate strategies.
Surprisingly, pets are coming to League of Legends in 2023 to make jungling easier. Riot explained pets will help with clearing, taking down epic monsters, and will "empower" the player as it levels, but much of its capabilities are a mystery. However, everything Riot mentioned is still going through the works, so many of these ideas players may not see in 2023.
