League of Legends 12.10 Patch Incorporates Huge Changes To Champions And Their Durability
With this update, perhaps our squishy teammates will no longer be one-shot out of existence.
League of Legends is here with their next update, patch 12.10 and with it comes a rather big change to all champions' durability.
Devs and players alike have agreed that while dealing a lot of damage is exciting and fun—dying quickly is not. It was through this lens that an increase to all champions’ durability was made. This will allow players to be given the opportunity to showcase their skills with an increase of opportunities for counterplays and counterattack. Players can now enjoy the high of the game rather than dying and respawning over and over and…you get the point.
The devs behind League of Legends wanted to stress that this change will not drastically impact the game to the point that there will be no kills by 15 minutes into the game--because let’s be honest--it feels good to see all those kills stack up by the end of a match. Rather, this update should help more squishy teammates to not be obliterated so quickly that they don’t even know the cause of their demise. The update will also hopefully reduce confusing team fights that are short and hard to follow.
With increased durability, players can expect an increase in a champion's base health, health per level, armor per level, and magic resist per level. With these changes, players should see gameplay changes as well. This means that players will feel their champions are dealing less damage and taking less damage. Burst champions must also commit more resources to get more kills. Skirmishes and team fights will also last longer.
This update is huge to gameplay mechanics and thus will be closely monitored. No one wants to fight an unkillable tank after all (but maybe playing that unkillable tank wouldn't be so bad.) It is for this reason that League of Legends will be monitoring role and champion balance extra carefully over the next few weeks. The end goal is to hit a sweet spot where all classes are viable, tactical combat has good pacing allowing for moments of skill expression, and the balance of snowballing and scaling are in healthy states. Patch 12.10 is sure to be a game changer for many players and something to look forward to for all.
