League Of Legends, Fortnite, Dota 2, Apex Legends Among Most Watched Games On Twitch
What are people watching on Twitch? As it turns out, a lot of free-to-play games. The Esports Observer tracks such things, and over the first half of 2019, the top 10 list is dominated by many of the biggest and most venerable games out there, as well as one prominent newcomer.
The list includes nine games, as well as the "Just Chatting" category of Twitch, with six of those nine being free-to-play games. That includes League of Legends at #1, Fortnite at #2, Dota 2 at #5, Apex Legends at #6, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at #7, and Hearthstone at #9.
Esports Observer points out that this represents a year-over-year decline for Fortnite, which was #1 over the same period of 2018, with 531.1 million hours viewed. It managed just 465 million hours over the first half of 2019, a drop of 12.4%. Meanwhile, last year's #4 game, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, is totally unknown to the 2019 list, having been replaced by Apex Legends. Apart from substituting "IRL" for "Just Chatting," that's the only change to the list between the years.
