Latest V Rising Developer Post Reveals The Game's World Map
The world is a celebration of all things horror.
Today, as they continue to prepare for Early Access, Stunlock Studios has decided to offer players a look at the world they will be exploring. Not to be outdone by its inhabitants, the world of Vardoran is terrifying in its own way. It’s a place filled with monsters of all kinds and is filled with a dark history. As new vampires explore Vardoran, they'll find many clues to the continent's history – mostly in how the different places to be found there have been shaped by those living there.
The tour begins with the Farbane Woods, which is essentially the whole lower half of the continent – at least the parts that we can see on the current map. These woods were the last place the vampires had left following a campaign waged by the Church of Luminance to eradicate them. Here, players will find the ruins of vampire civilization. It’s also where they'll take their first steps as fledgling vampires and where they'll get their first taste of human prey. Don’t feel too bad about your first feast. It's a bandit faction. They've holed up in vampire land in order to continue engaging in murder and mayhem outside of human law.
The next place the vampires will visit is Dunley. Once an important location in the time of Dracula, it's now inhabited by humans as they were able to take the area back following the church's victory over vampire kind. Now, players will find a place teeming with life, farming, and general human activity.
To travel north, players will have to make their way through the Cursed Forest. Supposedly this area is where the last of Dracula's followers used questionable rituals to try to bring him back. No one survived those attempts and the result is a literally cursed forest.
The last zone detailed in today’s dev post is Silverlight Hills. This is the seat of human power and it's thriving. Even the plants and wildlife are at their best. The largest location in this area is a port city by the name of Brighthaven. It's also the home of the Church of Luminance. (You know, that’s the group that hunted your people to near-extinction.) Most everyone living here is tied to the Church in some way – at least anyone who isn't living in poverty. Those people...well…they're either ignored or abused by society or both.
So far, it sounds like an interesting world. Even more interesting is that, based on the map, you can reach any area without having to leave dry land. Although, it seems like it would take a lot of time to make your way from the first connected area to the last, and it appears that more areas will be connected in the future if the map image is anything to go by.
On a separate note, Stunlock is apparently hosting a Horror Poster art contest so if that’s your jam, be sure to check it out.
