Latest New World: Forged In Aeternum Talks Recent Territory Changes And Teases Open-World PvP Leaderboards
Seems like players really like their ideas for PvP but have gripes with the reward structure.
Following the last Forged in Aeternum, where Amazon Games discussed their favorite zones in New World, the devs are back again this week to talk about recent territory changes and tease the upcoming open-world PvP leaderboards.
Hosted by Creative Director David Verfaillie and Social Feature Lead Dan Henuber, the video, aptly titled "Territory Game", dives into new developments released for the revenue-sharing model and touches on territory upgrades for governors over towns and the like. Notably, players should feel incentivized to level up their Territory at the max level because it increases income, aiming to persuade them into doing more Territory projects for additional funds.
Outside of those recent initiatives, the video focuses squarely on the upcoming PvP leaderboards and how the Territory Game will be affected. Henuber explained the leaderboards - coined as "Faction War Boards" - will have "cadences" on a "monthly and quarterly basis" where players can see the top three Factions. Moreover, those Factions will have metrics for how long they have held Territory, their Influence, and so on.
The devs plan to determine how war starts between Factions by establishing who becomes the Vanguard and who can declare war. Nothing seems set in stone, but Henuber teased that "timing windows" and "control points" may be coming to New World.
The former would allow the Faction with Territory to have limited captivity before defending it, while the latter centers on controlling Forts to sway Influence. The devs are interested in how player density can accumulate based on these events and overall hope to bring new life into the Territory Game.
Players in the comment section liked their ideas, but a common sentiment that open-world PvP doesn't feel rewarding is an issue. "We also need to see some major improvements to the reward structure, so that people actually want to participate in those Open World fights." Another echoed, "increase the rewards and influence they give as incentive to complete it."
If you have ideas, feel free to share them in the YouTube video's comment section!
