Korean Arrest Warrant Sought For Dark And Darker Developer, Later Dismissed
The issuance, or dismissal, of a warrant does not mean guilty or not guilty.
A Korean court has rejected a request for an arrest warrant for Dark and Darker lead developer Ju-Hyun Choi, as Ironmace Studios continues its court battle against Nexon. On the 27th, the Security Investigation Division of the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency filed for the arrest warrant. Mr. Choi appeared in court on the 29th according to MTN, but went home later that day as the warrant was rejected by the courts.
Choi was the Director of Development for "Project P3" at Nexon, a game that Nexon alleges was copied outright by Choi and his team at Ironmace Studios to create Dark and Darker. Choi is also accused of stealing P3 development resources and storing them outside of Nexon servers. Police have conducted search and seizure warrants on two occasions thus far to collect related evidence.
The arrest warrant was dismissed by the courts and was interpreted as Mr. Choi no longer being a threat to destroy further evidence or escape the country.
The Korean court is expected to make a ruling on the Dark and Darker case in August at the earliest, so there may still be plenty of drama ahead before an official ruling is made, not to mention the civil case here in the States.
