KOG Games' HeroWarz Went Away Just A Month Into Its Dramatic "Pause"
Remember HeroWarz? That was KOG Games' hack-and-slash RPG that launched in July 2016 and then -- presumably when the response wasn't what KOG hoped for -- didn't shut down, but "paused" in March 2017. The intent, according to the FAQ for the game, was for it to come back in early 2018, but here we are in September, and ... well ...
If you try going to the game's old URL, herowarz.koggames.com, you instead get the main page for Elsword. The Twitter account for the game still exists, and actually had this to say, back in April of 2017:
Our website and forums will be taken down on April 26th. Please read for further information.https://t.co/53WjlrpG0w pic.twitter.com/klCXAaCKYP

Just in case that goes away someday, too, the message is:
Our website and forums will be taken down on April 26th. Please read for further information.
It's followed by a link to the now-defunct HeroWarz site. The game's Korean servers apparently also shut down last year.
Because of most of the primary information sources being gone, I'm mostly working off what was reported on our site and elsewhere, where we stated that KOG Games made "vague statements about 'compensation'" for players who had invested in HeroWarz. We're guessing that never happened. In fact, I called the move a "major setback that damages player confidence in the game’s future prospects." Hope you didn't spend too much!
Sure, it's old-ish news, but a dramatic title like "The Pause of HeroWarz" was something that stuck with me, and maybe it did with you too, even if we did quickly forget about the game itself. I'm pretty sure we even talked about it on the Free-To-Play Cast. In any case, guessing that it wouldn't come back wasn't exactly the toughest prediction I've ever made.
