Knockout City Set To Shut Down Following Season 9’s End, Just After The Game's 2nd Anniversary
But... that may not EXACTLY mean the end of KC, a private server will emerge!
Sad news was shared on Knockout City’s official site. On the morning of June 9, 2023, Knockout City will be closing its doors and all servers worldwide will be shut down. Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of why this decision was made, let's talk about the good news.
Despite the game's end, players will still be able to enjoy their final season, Season 9, which is filled with content and will serve the game well as its final hurrah. Then, after Knockout City shuts down, players will still be able to join the game's Private Hosted Server which will be available as a free standalone download for Windows PC. More information will be shared closer to its release.
On February 28, Season 9 of Knockout City will kick off as initially planned. This 12-week season will have back-to-back events, creative cosmetics, twists on several playlists, a whole event dedicated to League Play, and a super-sized two-week Midnight Madness where the community will pick the two Playlists they want to play to close out the last Season. Players can also look forward to a brand-new map to accompany a new season-themed Brawl Pass and Deep Space Dispatch storyline.
It’s important to note that starting on February 28, all real-money transactions will be removed from the game. To make up for this, every event in Season 9 will be packed with rewards for XP, Style Chips, and thousands of Holobux. All events will also feature a massive sale shop with almost every cosmetic the game has ever sold. Rewards for League Play, Daily Login Bonuses, and the Brawl Pass have also been drastically increased. The Premium Brawl Pass will be just 50 Holobux, which should be easy to earn in the Free Pass.
Then, on May 23, after the game’s two-year anniversary, Season 9 will end and the final 2-week farewell will begin. In this final in-game celebration, players can earn triple XP, massive rewards, and enjoy the return of the community’s favorite playlist, Superpowers: Power Grab. Lastly, the event will end at 12:00 PM UTC on June 6, 2023, and all servers will be permanently shut down.
Now, a little bit more about why this decision had been made. Knockout City was created by a small limited-sized indie team, Velan Studios. For the game to continue as it has been while incorporating other larger important updates, live support quickly became impossible to keep up. Velan Studios has promised to “take everything [they’ve] learned building Knockout City and innovate in new ways”. Therefore, the game’s development must stop so the team can explore more possible opportunities. Now, whether these new opportunities are in Knockout City or a different world has yet to be decided.
All we can do now is wish Velan Studios all the best, thank Knockout City for the memories, and wait for what’s to come. Players who would like to read more on Knockout City’s farewell or read up on its FAQ section can check out their official site.
