RuneScape Client Changes

Recently, Jagex kicked off the open beta of the official Jagex Launcher. Now that it’s been around a while and the developers are reasonably happy with it they’ve decided to take a harder line with third-party launchers. Throughout the years, RuneScape has allowed (or at least tolerated) third-party launchers. The reasons being that in a lot of cases they improved the players’ quality of life. At the same time, Jagex has never been fond of launchers and plugins that have had a negative impact on gameplay. But, the tolerance of one, still allowed for the other despite Jagex’s efforts to prevent it.

Now, with the new launcher, the company has decided to take more structured measures. They’ve announced the introduction of an Approved Client List. This is a list of clients – other than the official Jagex launcher – that players can use. At present, the list contains three launchers, RuneLite, HDOS, and OSBuddy. The company has also stated that they are not looking to add any other clients at present.

If you’re wondering what happens if you use any non-approved clients. Well, you’ll be banned for two weeks. The good news is that you do have a bit of time. The policy doesn’t officially kick in until June 24 so if you are using something else right now, you have a couple of days to swap it out for one of the approved clients.

Its a good little compromise, its not hard lined, but it is still restricted to certain types. Allowing this is all good for the game and should be as well controlled as it izz here. nice job holding back a onslaught.
