Jagex Announces Jon Bellamy As New CEO With Phil Mansell Stepping Down
The teams were sent a video version of the announcement today.
RuneScape developer Jagex announced today that the company is going through a CEO transition. According to a press release, current CEO Phil Mansell is turning over the position to Jon Bellamy. Bellamy is familiar with Jagex and the gaming industry having held executive roles at Jagex between 2015 and 2018 before moving to Huuuge Games. In addition, he knows RuneScape well, playing the MMORPG for 20 years and has been part of the Old School RuneScape and Runescape 3 Communities.
As noted, Bellamy will be replacing Phil Mansell, who has served as CEO for the company since 2017. The transition won’t be abrupt, as Mansell will remain with the company to ensure everything goes well. To lay everything out for the players, Jagex posted a video discussing the future of the company and the transition itself.
Bellamy mentions communicating his "broader vision" for RuneScape in his statement saying, "It’s a great honour to assume the leadership of Jagex and to help steward a game franchise that means so much to so many millions, myself included. I am also excited to get to work with the outstanding team, whom I know well from my time on the Board, to ensure our games continue to be the best in the world. I plan to spend some time now with the team, reviewing our ambitions for Jagex, and plan to communicate my broader vision to the RuneScape community in the near-term.”
