Jackalope Games Rebranded To Jackalyptic Games, First Project A Warhammer Game That COULD Be An MMO
The game is in early development.
Recently, NetEase introduced their first US Studio Jackalyptic Games. This isn’t an entirely new studio, but rather a rebranding of Jackalope Games led by Jack Emmert, an industry veteran known for his work on several Cryptic Studios IPs, including City of Heroes, City of Villains, Marvel Universe Online, and Star Trek Online. According to the press release, the company still consists of the original Jackalope team and they will work on “top-tier PC and console games” under NetEase.
The rebranded studio is already hard at work on a new game based on the Warhammer IP – working in conjunction with Games Workshop. The press release doesn’t state "specifically" what the new game will be, but it seems to be a pretty good bet that it will be an MMO as Emmert’s experience in developing massively multiplayer online games is a main talking point.
In fact, Emmert makes note of this in his statement saying that “as someone who has molded [his] career developing expansive MMO stories, [he’s] proud to unveil that [the] first game in development at Jackalyptic Games will focus on the rich universes of Warhammer”.
Note that they say “Warhammer IP” and “universes”, so at this point, what players can expect is anyone’s guess. Either way, it’s worth keeping an eye on, and we’ll be sure to let you know when more details are revealed.
