It Seems Bungie May Be Considering A $40 Box Price For Marathon
The extraction shooter may just end up being buy-to-play.
As Bungie continues to work on its upcoming PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, they still have some decisions to make. Among these is the always-present question of what type of monetization the game should have. As we all know, many shooters available go for a free-to-play model with cosmetics, lootboxes, or something else players can spend their money on. Not all of them, of course, but many.
In the case of Marathon, it seems Bungie may be going for a $40 buy-to-play model. This news comes via The Game Post who cite “multiple sources”. The post does not indicate if the box price will be the only thing players have to pay, or if they will also be asked to pay for all the usual extras. It does, however, point out that the box price situation may change as a result of Concord’s less-than-stellar rollout. Although, that wasn’t JUST the result of the game having an up-front cost. Many gamers don’t mind a box price is the game is actually worth it.
