It’s Official, Counter-Strike 2 Is On The Way, And Current CS:GO Players Will Be Keeping All Their Stuff
It will be a free upgrade to CS:GO.
Fans of Valve’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are getting a big update for their game this summer. Interestingly, rather than just being a content update, patch, or DLC, this upgrade is being delivered in the form of Counter-Strike 2. According to Valve, it’s the “largest technical leap forward” in the history of Counter-Strike. It will introduce new features and updates and they plan to keep delivering them “for years to come”.
The announcement doesn’t offer full details about what to expect, instead saying that we’ll find out more when the shooter officially launches this summer. Among some of the features Valve did reveal are dynamic smoke grenades with smoke that interacts with other gameplay elements and reacts to lighting, changes to tick rate, and – of course – improved visuals in the maps.
Current players of CS: GO will have the opportunity to take part in a limited test beginning today in order to help make sure some features are ready to go live in time. There’s more good news for current CS: GO players as well. They get to keep all their stuff. Not only that, but it will all look better. Legacy models will benefit from Counter-Strike 2’s Source 2 lighting and materials and all shock weapons have been upgraded to high-res models.
