Honestly, I was never really sure why it was there in the first place.

Islands of Insight is an interesting game in my book. I very much enjoyed recording the First Look video (below) and it is still installed today. I've even played the puzzle MMO since doing that video. Not many other First Look games can say that. It's not my main MMO, of course, but it is 100% a "chill and solve puzzles while watching Netflix" game for me.

In my First Look I mentioned that I wasn't really sure why the game decided to be an "MMO" at all. There wasn't a chat. You could party up with friends, but it didn't really accomplish much as you still each had to solve your own version of a puzzle. Puzzles didn't require you to be grouped up, either. There wasn't really a point.

I wasn't alone in that feedback and the team at Lunarch Studios decided enough people wanted to see an offline mode, so they went ahead and decided to add one. It is ready for launch and will be added to Islands of Insight on July 9.

You can still play the online mode if you want, and you're able to take your online progress and continue in a solo offline version if you so desire. In my book, this is certainly the right call. The last thing I wanted to happen to this game was for it to totally disappear if it ever closed down.

While there's a demo on Steam, you can actually snag the base game for free (and own it forever) if you act fast. Claim it before tomorrow, June 27th, at 1 PM EST. After that the game will be 50% off as part of the Steam Summer Sale.
