If You Heard The Rumor That Destiny 2 Is Getting New Subscriptions, Don’t Worry, It’s Fake
The hoax was a joke intended for the dataminer’s Discord server.
At the time of this writing, this entire thing is over and done with, but just in case you saw the news about a Destiny 2 leak indicating the game would be getting some kind of subscription service, don’t worry. The entire thing was a hoax perpetrated by a couple of the game’s more popular dataminers.
The duo originally shared that they’d found a “possible Destiny 2 subscription code” in the game files on their Discord server. According to a series of tweets by Destiny Tracker (who ignored the original news because they believed it to be fake, as did we), the news spread like wildfire. As it turns out, they were correct. The news was intended as a joke and, apparently, the dataminers didn’t believe it would travel as far as it did.
An apology was posted on their server, explaining that the joke wasn’t intended maliciously. They also noted that if they do any joke posts in the future, they’ll be labeled as such. Finally, the post notes that currently “nothing outside of the current season can be datamined”. Just in case anyone wants to run any fact-checks.
DTR never reported on this news because it seemed highly fake.
