HoYoVerse Cancels South Korean Genshin Impact Event Midway Through Following Bomb Threat
A tweet claimed a pipe bomb had been planted at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena.
HoYoVerse was forced to cut a major Genshin Impact event that was spread across two venues short this weekend following a bomb threat on Twitter. The 2023 Genshin Impact Summer Festival was intended to celebrate the game’s 3.8 summer event, and was intended to run from July 20 through July 23.
Unfortunately, the company was forced to cancel the rest of the event on July 22 following a tweet from a user named PingPinMon69 claiming a pipebomb had been planted at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena (or KSPO Dome). The tweet from the account – which has since been suspended – allegedly included images of the device, according to GameRant. The tweet’s text stated that PingPin was “looking forward” to the explosion, and apparently made references to anti-Chinese ideals.
Once the event was canceled and approximately 200 attendees removed, the venue was swept for the bomb and nothing was found. South Korean police are now working on tracking down the individual who made the threat.
