Home Stretch: Firefall to release final closed beta milestone tomorrow
Oh what a journey it has been for Firefall. The open world MMOFPS has had one of the longest stints in closed beta with multiple, drastic revamps dotted along its development road. Now, with two weeks left before its official Open Beta launch Red 5 studios has announced the game's final closed beta content addition. Set to go live tomorrow, Firefall's final Closed Beta milestone will add a new PvP game mode called "Jetball" and Firefall's first story-based episode, "Blackwater Anomaly".
Jetball is a mix of capture the flag and basketball, with players attempting to fly or shoot a ball through each team's goal. While one player has a hold of the ball they are unable to defend themselves. Teams will have to defend the carrier or pass the ball to each other in order to effectively score. Red 5 believes this mode will be very popular for those wanting to engage in Firefall's Esports scene.
Personally, I am more excited about Blackwater Anomaly which will kick off Red 5's world-story reveal. The story-based episode sounds a bit like a dungeon, as it is tuned for groups of five. These groups will be able to venture into the Melding to investigate the anomaly that's reared its ugly head in Blackwater Marsh, while learning more about the MMO's opposing NPC faction the Chosen. The event sounds similar to a dungeon although up until now group events have all occurred out in the open world.
If you aren't in the closed beta you will have to wait until the game's Open Beta on July 9th to check out the new updates. Until then, here is a teaser trailer for Firefall's upcoming live action trailer which will be revealed at launch.
With all the changes Firefall has undergone since the closed beta began, are you still excited about the Open Beta?
