UPDATED: "Hold The Line" Says Dark And Darker Developer, Alluding To New Playtest Coming Soon
Will the scheduled public playtest for the dungeon-crawler happen today after all?
It’s a good time to be a member of the official Dark and Darker Discord server right now…or bad, depending on how you look at it.
Grayson, one of the developers from IRONMACE — the studio behind the dungeon-crawler, keeps telling fans to “HOLD THE LINE,” via Discord. Members of the community are waiting with bated breath to see whether or not news of a playtest previously scheduled to start today could be coming soon. In the meantime, memes are flooding the server and fans are intently watching what songs Grayson is listening to on Spotify (which shows on Discord) because they think he is giving clues.
The team is still in the midst of a legal battle with Nexon over allegedly stolen assets (although as we've discussed on the Always Online Podcast, this issue goes FAR deeper than assets) in Dark and Darker. A public playtest was scheduled for today, April 14, but the game is still delisted from Steam after being served a cease and desist plus a DMCA takedown. Last month, the indie developers' offices were raided by Korean officials — “nothing was found though,” according to Ironmace.
UPDATE: Looks like the team may try to fire the playtest afterall, albeit not via Steam and not in Korea. From the official Discord:
