Hi-Rez Is Ending Support Of SMITE on Nintendo Switch And It's Already Gone From eStore
"...Performance of our Switch port was not up to our standards..."
While Titan Forge Games and Hi-Rez Studios continue down the road of SMITE 2 development, players of the MOBA have been getting plenty of information thanks to the team's "Titan Talk" streams. I've put the latest episode below for those that want to review the latest update and some of the balance changes made and some more that are coming soon. That's on top of recently revealed plans to add a new god every week.
While that's all good news, there was some bad news revealed today for anyone playing the original SMITE on the Nintendo Switch. SMITE came to the handheld platform when it launched on the Switch back in 2019, but apparently its performance never met with the "standards" at Hi-Rez. That seems like a weird announcement to me almost 6 years after releasing on the platform.
As a result, the company will discontinue support of the title on Switch. Effective immediately, you can no longer find the MOBA on the Nintendo eShop. The game will shut down on May 1st. If you play SMITE on other platforms, you're fine. In fact, Titan Forge is advising Switch players to link accounts they may have on other platforms so you can continue your progress once the Switch version is offline.
According to the post, this will free up resources to support SMITE on all other platforms. "This choice wasn’t made easily or without concern for our community, however we realized that the performance of our Switch port was not up to our standards, and we were unable to provide the level of support our players deserve. This shift allows us to provide players on other platforms better support, as well as deliver updates with more flexibility whenever needed," says the post.
If you want to play SMITE on a handheld, I guess it's time to try on your Steam Deck or other handheld PC device.
