Here's Why Halo Infinite Wasn't At The Xbox Games Showcase
Halo isn't of "lesser importance" according to Phil Spencer.
Noticeably absent from the Xbox Games Showcase last week was Halo Infinite. Season 4 launches on June 20th, and Halo has long been a flagship franchise for Xbox, so many fans were wondering what was up with the game when it did not make an appearance.
We now have a statement from Xbox head man Phil Spencer on Halo Infinite's absence from the showcase thanks to an interview with the Guardian.
“I wouldn’t say Halo is of lesser importance, but we have over 20 studios now,” Spencer said. “I’ll go back to the years where I had basically four games – Fable, Forza, Halo, Gears, the four horseman of the apocalypse. We have a lot more games now.”
Spencer went on to say that the recent restructuring of Halo developer 343 Industries also had a bit to do with why Halo Infinite did not feature during the showcase.
“We’ve been pretty public about the leadership change at 343,” he said. “You can kind of see that in some of the social things [the team have] been doing around seasons, but I don’t want to force them to talk about their longer-term vision until they’re ready. I think you’ll see some pretty cool things coming.”
Xbox Games Studios boss Matt Booty also spoke out this week, speaking with Axios and saying that other Xbox owned studios could be involved in Halo Infinite development going forward.
“I feel confident in the leadership team, but the team that got us here is probably not the same team that’s going to take us forward,” Booty said.
In a follow-up question, he did not rule out the possibility of Call of Duty devs working on Halo Infinite should the Microsoft / Activision deal go through.
