Illfonic has proven that it can exploit iconic '80s films for great multiplayer action with Predator: Hunting Grounds and Friday the 13th: The Game. Today, the developer gave us a sneak peek at its next project that's set to mine your nostalgia, in the form of a trailer video for the upcoming Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will let you customize your own 'Buster and take him or her with three friends out to, well, bust some ghosts. You'll have a variety of equipment to choose from, ranging from the well-established proton packs and traps to totally new gear created for the game.

There are at least four kinds of ghosts and, when you get tired of being the good guy, you can take on the role of a ghost to torment and frustrate your friends. Ghosts have a variety of different abilities, including possession, teleportation -- and, of course, sliming. "If you’re someone who loves the movies or asymmetrical multiplayer games, this was made for you," said Illfonic CEO Charles Brungardt.

Rounding out the experience is the voice talent of two members of the original movie's cast: Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, who will serve as the new Ghostbusters' guide, and Dan Aykroyd, as the proprietor of Ray's Occult Books. The gang's firehouse headquarters is where you'll plan your mission, but it looks like you'll have to answer your own phones -- sorry, no Janine.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC (via Epic Games Store), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X; cross-platform multiplayer will be enabled at launch. Learn more about the game on its website.
