GW2 Senior Narrative Lead Tom Abernathy Moves From ArenaNet To Bungie
Calls working at ArenaNet "the honor and thrill of my career."
A new year means a new job for Tom Abernathy, the senior narrative lead at ArenaNet, who has departed the Guild Wars 2 developer to take up an identical position at Bungie. Abernathy himself announced the move on Twitter yesterday:
After 5 years in the best job I’ve ever had, it’s time for me to find new challenges. I’ve left ArenaNet. Leading the team @BobbyStein & I built has been the honor & thrill of my career, & I’ll miss them & all our collaborators deeply. I couldn’t be prouder of our work together.+

Taking over Abernathy's position at ArenaNet will be long-time veteran of the studio Bobby Stein. The End of Dragons expansion launches next month, so we'd presume that any story elements for it are locked in and won't be affected by the change in leadership.
Destiny 2's next big expansion, The Witch Queen, is also slated for a February launch, so Abernathy won't likely have any input on that. Instead, he'll probably direct the post-expansion story and future expansions -- or maybe he'll be put to work on some of the studio's other projects, like the "new stories in the Destiny Universe" or the new IP that Bungie is working on.
