Seed Saga

One of the fun things about MMOs is the plant life. Sure, some of it would rather eat you than sit there and look pretty, but we do spend a lot of time in online games tending gardens – whether for fun or to have the necessary items for our crafting goals.

What if you could take that effort outside? Not outside in the game, but outside of your house here on Earth? It seems that the Guild Wars 2 team has asked that same question and the result is a partnership with the UK-based organization Agency for Nature. AFN’s goal is basically to team with different creative groups to “build hype for the nature-connected lifestyle”. On their site, they currently have five campaigns listed ranging from a high-fashion campaign to tying nature into medicine.

Included in these campaigns is a partnership with the Guild Wars 2 team named SeedSaga. This campaign encourages players to “Game. Grow. And Touch Grass” by sending them free packets of seeds inspired by the game. Players can order Blooming Passiflora, Flax, and Crimson Sunflower. The hope is to get players a bit more involved in nature while bringing biodiversity to their community.

There is a catch, however. As this is a UK-based organization, the seeds will only be sent to UK players. Perhaps, if you’re outside the UK and have a friend who lives there, you might convince them to send you some, but it might be a better idea to just hit up your local hardware store, feed store, or nursery and see what’s available.

I will never understand the need for videogame companies to do weird fucking charities. Some videogame-related charities maybe but when I get my special cancer ribbon accessory in murderkillfucker 3000 online I will always remain perplexed.
