Guild Wars 2 Teases Expansion Reveal With Short Clip Of Spears Being Available Outside The Water
They’re not just for fish, anymore.
In case you missed the memo – although, we’re sure Guilds Wars 2 fans have not – ArenaNet has wrapped up Secrets of the Obscure and is preparing to reveal their next expansion. To get players hyped for the reveal on June 4, the dev team decided to share some facts about how things have gone since they decided to change the MMORPG’s development model from Living World to annual expansions.
The post reiterates the reasoning behind this change and looks at how things have gone over the last year, as well as what they’ve learned. As an example, they now have a better understanding of how story can work under this new system and plan to tell a “more grounded story” that takes place in a region named Tyria. This story will be more locally focused. It will also continue some things from Secrets of the Obscure, like the Astral Ward arc.
Another change players can expect is for two maps to be released at the expansion’s launch rather than having a single map for each release. They’ll also drop the third map in the second update and expand it in the third, allowing themselves more time to work on the last map.
Finally, the devs are reworking how they deal with features in future expansions. This is to ensure they’re not just making stuff for the sake of making it and that instead it will be features that are worthwhile and continue to be useful for a while.
Oh, yes, they’re apparently bringing spears out of the water. At least, that’s what this teaser video implies.
For those who like shiny infographics, the post included one of those as well.
