Grinding Gear Games Plans To Bring Back April Fools' Gag Path of Exile: Royale
With the success of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite: Battle Royale, everyone's hopping on the battle royale bandwagon -- even if it's just as a joke. Path of Exile did just that on April Fools' Day, even going so far as to change the game's title on Steam. As it turns out, the gag was popular enough that Grinding Gear Games is already making plans to bring back the mode, possibly on a permanent basis.
A post on the PoE forums talks about how Battle Royale mode came to be, and was implemented very quickly, with each developer given a task and one work day to implement it -- "though the definition of 'workday' was stretched considerably for one programmer." Nearly 28,000 matches were played over 31 hours the mode was live.
Thanks to the unexpected popularity of battle royale, GGG is considering bringing it back at a future date. At the very least, the devs intend to bring it back as a limited-time event, though there's some question as to whether it could be a full-fledged game mode all on its own. If you tried the mode, what did you think of it, and do you think it would be worth implementing as a permanent part of Path of Exile?
