Ghosts 'n Goblins Online (Maybe) Coming To Steam

Here's a real blast from the past. 8-bit console legend Ghosts 'n Goblins is trying to make a comeback, in the form of a F2P online game that's currently up for consideration on Steam Greenlight.

Originally released over 25 years ago for the NES, Commodore 64, and Amiga, Ghosts 'n Goblins was a sidescrolling action platformer known for its punishing difficulty and its underwear-clad, lance-chucking knight, Arthur. Several sequels and other installments followed, all the way up to 2010's iOS-based Ghosts 'n Goblins: Gold Knights.

The series has been in the hands of Capcom since its inception, but it looks like Korean developer Seed9 is handling GnG Online's development. Here's what you get if you click on the "Online" link on Seed9's website. Not exactly what I'd call a strong portfolio.

All that aside, it's a curious direction for a game that, if videos are any indication, looks like it doesn't vary too far from the sidescrolling action of the original, albeit with more players and apparently a somewhat easier difficulty curve -- though the details boast of the "Demon Dimension," for those with a yen for masochism. "Skill-based PvP" is also touted.

So how will free-to-play work within the structure of the game? One would imagine that alternate characters, weapons, armor, and other upgrades would be available for purchase, as well as for in-game loot, but until we know the details, the specter of pay-to-win is scarier than any potential ghost or goblin.

The Steam Greenlight listing for Ghosts 'n Goblins Online by Korean developer Seed 9 Games was "wrongly posted" and has since been taken down, Capcom told Polygon this morning.

A representative for the company confirmed that the game's Greenlight page had been removed. They stated there are currently no plans for a western release for Ghosts 'n Goblins Online, which launched in select Asian territories last year.

"The Steam Greeenlight page for Ghosts ‘n Goblins Online that went live yesterday was wrongly posted by the game's Korean developer, Seed 9, and the page has now been removed," the representative said. "Ghosts ‘n Goblins was released last year in Korea, China and Taiwan and currently there are no plans for the title to be released in Europe or North America."

More and more or these old games are coming back. I have little hope for any of them, but i keep my eye out for releases and reviews just incase :)

Most just trying to cash in on the nostalgia and the name.

Oh my, I use to love playing this game back on nes. Jeez, does this reboot bring back updated memories or what!? Yes, I'm well over 25 lol. This looks great and seems fun if they can deliver it well and not eeef it up with a horrible cash shop, P2Win anyone? Hopefully like hovsep said above, their cash shop isn't a big deal. *thumbs up in anticipation*

i played the game yes you can lose your armour after you get hit alot no you do not die in 1 hit yes it gets harder later on no its not pay 2 win yes the game was fun to play quited cause of too high lag the game has cutscenes yes your goal is to save a princes or whoever she was yes the story is actualy better than you think yes you can do lots of combos , no you cant choose genders it has warrior,a indian bellydancer?,mage and a guy who fights with fists who is the newest character yes you need a kssn to play ghost n goblins a korean phone number too your character has lives you get lives back by going to a healer for a price of course ( the cash shop does not sell equipment only the usual stuff thats harmless) OH and another thing there is a power up wich gives you the armor from arthur and while you fight with that power up you will hear the original ghost n goblins theme music also at some other parts you hear the music too

my opinion: the game is great and worth a try

OMG Ghosts 'n Goblins was awesome, but still doesn't mean that this will be, just putting my expectations low so I won't get disappointed, but I will be looking for this.
