Genshin Developer MiHoYo Hiring For "Open-World Action Adventure" Shooter Out Of Its Montreal Office
Still hoping for one billion players in its virtual worlds by 2030.
What is MiHoYo doing with all that Genshin Impact money? Making more games, of course!
We've known that the Shanghai-based developer has been working on other projects for some time now, as its CEO said that it hopes to "release a new product every 3-4 years." Now we've got some details on what its next project might be.
MiHoYo has spun up a new game studio in Montreal, with the aim of "creating a brand-new AAA open-world action-adventure game featuring shooting-based gameplay within a living, breathing paranormal world." That's a lot to absorb, but at its core, it sounds not altogether dissimilar from Genshin Impact, apart from the focus on shooting and with the "paranormal" tag making it sound like you'll be hunting demons and the like in a modern setting as opposed to fantasy beasts and monsters.
Job listings on LinkedIn confirm that this project will be a new IP, making use of vehicles and offering first- and third-person views. It's also described as "multiplatform," but that should come as no surprise.
And, in case you thought the CEO's desire for a virtual world with one billion people by 2030 was just a one-time slip of the (overconfident) tongue, that's not the case. Each job description includes that hopeful vision, and there's little doubt that MiHoYo is banking on this upcoming game to provide another influx of players to see it through.
