Pearl Abyss Drops Gameplay And Interview Video For Creature-Catching Game DokeV
The game is intended to pay homage to things that are important when you’re young.
Pearl Abyss’ DokeV (pronounced Dokebi) is a game about children catching monsters inspired by Korean folklore creatures of the same name. Originally presented as an MMO a while back, the game has changed in focus a bit, but maintains the super-adorable feel that originally attracted a lot of attention. While we’re still not 100% sure on the monetization of the game – with Pearl Abyss, there are a few options – we’re all pretty interested to see more of it.
Thankfully, there’s Gamescom. During this week’s annual event, the Pearl Abyss team dropped a new musical trailer, and a gameplay/game overview where the dev team discussed what inspired the game, the elements they wanted to focus on, and how they went about making it feel real while maintaining the cute look. One of the developers’ goals was to create a game that recreated the experiences we have as children when we imagined things – like flying or being a superhero, or going on big adventures.
As mentioned, the game’s focus has changed a bit, going from a full MMO to an open-world action-adventure game with a single-player main story, co-op, and (eventually) PvP – once they come up with a system that promotes positive experiences rather than toxicity. In a recent interview with French site JuexOnline (translated by AltChar), the Pearl Abyss team spoke a bit about these changes, saying that they felt the open-world better serves their goals for the game. They also indicated that they’re interested in adding real-life experiences to the game, like concerts and film screeners.
