GAMESCOM 2024: Level Infinite Showcase Drops Info On Dune: Awakening, Exoborne, Tarisland, And More
Meh, the show wasn't bad, but if you've been following any of these games, you already saw almost all of this.
Level Infinite just wrapped up its Gamescom 2024 Showcase a few minutes ago and honestly, the presentation was just "ok" in my opinion. There were quite a few games shown off but I'll be sticking to the multiplayer ones in this recap. Most of the stream showed things we've already known about and seen before. That's not to say we didn't see SOME new little tidbits here and there, but if you've been following these games, then you've likely already seen most of what the showcase offered.
First up was Exoborne, a post-apocalyptic, open world, extraction shooter. Last week the team at Sharkmob dropped a new trailer finally revealing some of the gameplay you can expect when you're taking on other players, missions, and even the weather. Exoborne's portion opened with that same trailer and then showed a few more very short clips of the suits you'll be wearing in game. As a title I am watching closely, I really wanted more out of this presentation.
On the MMO front, Tarisland got a bit of love with a reveal of their upcoming first season coming in October. Content-wise, "Blight Dragon Elegy" will add new story quests, new areas to explore in Scardion Icefield, a slew of new PvE dungeons, raids, and bosses, and a level cap increase to level 50. We also got to see the roadmap for September and October. This roadmap includes a Steam release for the MMORPG.
Arena Breakout: Infinite made an appearance and announced that early access would have no wipes, so enjoy that progression if you're currently playing. Other news on the shooter, including showing off a new map, was actually part of last night's "Opening Night Live" presentation.
From there the presentation unveiled a number of single-player or small scale co-op titles, some of which looked neat and may be worth a quick view in the full video below. After that, it was off to Warframe news. This was really just a trailer for the upcoming Warframe 1999 update. It was weird that they didn't even mention the prelude quests for that patch that went live in the title today.
Nightingale was on hand to talk about the "Realms Rebuilt" update that we've already detailed in a few different posts.
I guess you can technically say that Soulframe was at the showcase too, but all they showed was a variant of the Gameplay Spotlight video revealed at TennoCon last month. I placed the "new" version below.
The showcase ended with another look at Dune: Awakening, the survival MMO coming in 2025 from Funcom. There was sand, sand worms, tech, and yeah, basically everything you expect from something based on the Dune IP. After a re-showing of the latest trailer, Funcom CCO Joel Bylos walked through a number of smaller pieces of information and had a few short clips to show off for those excited to build on Arrakis. The Dune portion starts at 37:35 in the full stream video below if you want to jump right to it. There was cool gameplay video dropped outside of the Showcase, though.
So yeah, pretty "ok at best" in my book. What's your take?
