GAMESCOM 2023: Free-To-Play Hero Shooter Second Wave Gets A Shiny New Cinematic Trailer
Could this be a serious competitor to Overwatch 2?
During GAMESCOM 2023, Challengers Games released a new cinematic trailer for Second Wave, their upcoming free-to-play multiplayer hero-based shooter MOBA. Yeah, that's a lot of keywords. At first glance, it looks akin to something like Overwatch.
In Second Wave, players take on the role of a legendary Hero or Exile and fight over an endless war for the Arcane Stone. There are currently slated to be three game modes in Second Wave; Domination, Core, and Three-Way-Battle.
Second Wave promises that there will be no pay-to-win in the game, with the cash shop and battle pass consisting of cosmetic-only items and additional voice lines for characters.
If ever there was a time for a new competitor to jump into the hero-shooter market, that time is now. Overwatch 2 is being widely criticized and review bombed on Steam, so players could be looking for a new alternative. Second Wave is still marked as "coming soon", so it'll be interesting to see if they can get the game out in a timely manner and take advantage of unhappy Overwatch 2 players.
Check out the full cinematic trailer below, which offers a look into some of the lore of the game surrounding the Arcane Stone.
