Gamers Worried Over Possible Bias In The European Commission's Response To Microsoft-Activision Pending Acquisition.
Every day we get closer to the big conclusion.
On November 8, Ricardo Cardoso, Deputy Head of Unit Inter-institutional & Outreach at the European Commission, made an interesting and what seemed to be a particularly biased Tweet in favor of Sony in regards to the European Commission entering phase 2 into the investigation of the Microsoft-Activision possible merger.
"The Commission is working to ensure that you will still be able to play Call of Duty on other consoles (including my PlayStation)," Cardoso’s Tweet said, worrying many that this bias could possibly manipulate the approval or denial of the pending merger.
Worried gamers don’t need to fret, as Cardoso will not be involved in the merger process in any way. The European Commission has a specific department for mergers called COMP, which is run by the Directorate-General for Competition. Because Cardoso is not involved in the COMP branch, he will not be assisting with the Microsoft-Activision merger.
Adriana Podesta, the spokesperson for the European Commission, gave the following response to TweakTown, “As you've correctly pointed out, Mr. Cardoso works in the Director General for the Internal Market and not in the Directorate General for Competition. Mr. Cardoso is not involved in the assessment of this transaction. Furthermore, as indicated clearly in his Twitter profile, he tweets in a personal capacity."
While some die-hard Sony fans would probably accept the bias eagerly, it looks like Cardoso has no involvement in the merger proceedings. Still, despite everything, Phil Spencer feels confident that the Activision acquisition will go through.
