Game Awards 2022: MMO Dune: Awakening Reveals In-Game Pre-Alpha Footage During Award Show
Players can sign up for the incoming beta and wishlist the game now!
During The Game Awards 2022, Funcom dropped a teaser showing off in-game pre-alpha footage of open-world survival MMO Dune: Awakening. The trailer showcased reveals much of Frank Herbert's world in video game form and captures the epic scale of Arrakis across multiple clips.
Following their experience with Conan Exiles, Funcom explains in a press release that Dune: Awakening "builds upon this strong foundation" to present a clash of open-world survival and MMO elements in a unique way. The trailer aims to display some of that flavor. Players can also check out the updated Dune: Awakening website for a panoramic view of the in-game experience.
At the core of Dune: Awakening, players will step into a world where spice lies at the center of all conflicts, sending fans from quick skirmishes to large-scale battles where ground vehicles, ornithopters, and infantry have essential roles. But there are plenty of choices players can make out in the many deserts - such as scouring the sands for resources, becoming a deadly mercenary with high-tier armor and weaponry, or flaunting their speech skills to gain influence among the Great Houses.
Chief Creative Officer at Funcom and Creative Director over Dune: Awakening Joel Bylos explained the IP is "trying to push the boundaries of what people expect in the survival space." From the released footage, no one can say how much about that will be accurate, but players may be able to soon. As of this writing, you can sign up for a beta on the Dune: Awakening website. There is no official date for this beta test, but we can expect to hear more about it in the coming months.
Dune: Awakening will come to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
