Yesterday's Nintendo Direct showcased several new games that would be coming to the Switch in the near future. Among them was a brief teaser for Zynga and BossAlien's Star Wars: Hunters, which didn't offer much in the way of information beyond "Coming 2021."

Now we've got a full game announcement and lengthier description, found on the official Star Wars website. Star Wars: Hunters is a competitive arena combat game set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, where teams of "distinctive new Star Wars characters" will square off against each other "in arena settings inspired by iconic Star Wars locales." The game will be free to download on the Switch, the App Store, and Google Play, with cross-play battles enabled.

You can catch a glimpse of some of the characters to be included in the game, in hologram form, in the trailer below. They include a female alien with a red lightsaber, a Stormtrooper with a laser cannon, a bounty hunter with twin pistols, and a wookiee with a pair of hefty melee weapons.

The official Star Wars: Hunters site has just a brief description of gameplay: "Dominate grand arenas using skill and tactics as you engage in thrilling combat to reign victorious with your team." The game is listed as being rated PEGI 7, which indicates that it includes "Very mild forms of violence." By comparison, even the cartoony Fortnite is PEGI 12. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
