fortnite battle pass reward change

Fortnite is making a pretty substantial change to the way items in the battle royale's battle pass can be acquired. The battle pass itself isn't being changed. You'll get you season pass, earn experience through playing and completing quests, earn battle pass levels, and earn your rewards. It'll stay the same price with the same V-Bucks offered as rewards.

What is changing is what happens to those rewards after the season ends and the battle pass closes.

Once 18 months elapse after a battle pass closes, any item offered as a reward in that battle pass could find its way into the game's cash shop. It isn't "guaranteed" to show up, nor will it show up "exactly" 18 months later. The item just becomes "eligible" to appear for purchase.

If a battle pass reward has alt styles, these styles may also appear in the cash shop.

Initial reactions on social media are a bit mixed on this one. There's a segment of players that like earning their exclusive rewards and then sporting those cosmetics in the future when they are unobtainable. The counter argument recognizes that this new practice always gives new players a chance at some time in the future to maybe buy items from the past. Importantly, this does include licensed IP collaborations. That means if you miss a Marvel event, you could still get these items, you may just have to wait a while until they hit the shop.

Battle Pass Quest rewards are also eligible for cash shop inclusion. While not all alt styles may show up in the shop for an item, LEGO styles are the exception. LEGO styles will always come with shop items.

It should be noted that the change impacts "future battle passes" so maybe don't expect something in already ended battle passes to be included in this new practice. Unless Epic Games decides to change the deal again, I guess.

Are you down with this change?
