Fortnite’s iOS Version Is About To Become Even Worse
At the end of the month, they’ll no longer allow players to spend V-Bucks.
Fortnite players using the iOS version of the game have been more-or-less left in the dust ever since Epic Games began fighting with Apple. Since 2020, the company has not updated its game on the platform – although they have allowed players who had it installed to continue playing it. It seems they’d also continued to allow players to spend V-Bucks on the iOS version, despite the game not getting any of the new store items for just as long.
Now, even that is about to come to an end. According to some recent tweets on the Fortnite Status account, players using iOS, Mac, and Google Play will no longer be able to spend the virtual currency through the game’s store. They’ll also need to be over 18 to play. The reason for this change is that Epic has been implementing features intended to protect kids (and their parents' wallets). These, rather important, changes are things that can’t be implemented in any of these stores.
We want all versions of our games to use the current suite of Epic Online Services including parental controls, purchasing defaults, and parental verification features. We are not able to update the app on these platforms given Apple and Google’s restrictions on Fortnite. (2/2)
