Former Jagex/RuneScape Devs Show Off Multiplayer FPS: "Ascendant Infinity" In The Most 80s Way Possible
THE WORLD’S FIRST ADAPTION SHOOTER!
PlayFusion, a game development studio consisting of former Jagex and RuneScape developers, has unveiled Ascendant Infinity — a squad-based tactical multiplayer first-person shooter powered by Unreal Engine 5. We've known about this one for a while, so I'm not sure what was "unveiled" here...besides a hysterical, 80s sitcom-based trailer. It is pretty majestic, though.
The game features a unique "BioPunk" aesthetic with landscapes that dynamically change mid-match. It will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game's storyline revolves around players who have been newly defrosted after a millennium on ice, navigating a chaotic, highly evolved world following a catastrophic event known as “The Cascade.”
Ascendant Infinity attempts to set itself apart from other titles in the genre with real-time map changes during matches, influenced by both organic evolution and player-triggered events. The goal is to maintain unpredictability and freshness in each match, according to the team.
They told IGN the idea was to create a premium PC action game that serves as a spiritual successor to leading shooters. The focus is on competitive integrity, deep character and weapon customization — all while injecting a sense of fun into a traditionally serious gaming genre.
